3 Fashion Editors On What They’re Buying This Season

Because autumn is nearly here…

By Anna Saunders

It was one of the worst summers on record… and in a few weeks it will be over. As autumn approaches we asked three of our favourite stylists and fashion editors to tell us what they have their eye on this season…

Rachel Wayman is a freelance stylist, who has worked for Elle, marie claire and Shop Till You Drop.

“One of my favourite trends is the broken-up suit, which was huge at Celine. You might take a suit but wear the blazer mixed back with denim and a scarf and then wear the pant separately. I love all these timeless pieces but mixed back in an imaginative way.”

“Last year I wore everything back with a sneaker, but this year I love these boots from The Row for a sense of polish,” says Rachel, who also selected a suede coat from Loewe (“one of those purchases you’ll wear for the rest of your life. It’s very chic and bohemian which is the spirit of Loewe”). She describes the Albus Lumen skirt as one that can be worn summer and winter, and also plans to pick up several round-neck t-shirts from Bassike “as I wear them everywhere”.

Tara Morris is PRIMER’s shopping editor and a fashion editor at The ICONIC. Her work has appeared in marie claire magazine and Shop Till You Drop

“For me, this new season is defined by tailoring – quite masculine and oversized pieces like blazers and pants, but mixed in with casual hoodies and tees. So I’ll be wearing track pants, like these buttery ones by sustainable brand Pangaia, with sneakers and a blazer, or a wide Acne pant with a trench coat and New Balance (like the Scandi girls).

Tara discovered Pangaia at the end of last year “and now I’m obsessed… they describe themselves as a “materials science company”, using recycled and sustainable fabric, and I love the lines of product description printed on the front of their pieces”. She points to the XX pant as the piece “I want all of my wardrobe to work around”, while the Arket boots will be “sleek and versatile”.

Karla Clarke is a stylist and consultant who has worked for Harper’s Bazaar, and a number of fashion brands and is the co-founder of Side-Note.

“I’ve never really been a trend shopper, and as I take on more work and balance more projects, I am most interested in nailing my “uniform” once and for all.

I want to try and buy less but – controversially – buy more ‘expensive’. Looking back, the pieces that have made me feel best are the ones that are the most beautifully made. So, this season I will be enthusiastically updating my ‘staples’ and developing a highly functional, wear-every-day capsule wardrobe.

Karla chose a white blazer from Toteme, Prada loafers as an everyday flat and black leggings from The Row (“no fancy splits, zips or stirrups, that isn’t an exercise tight”).

She also plans to buy four men’s t-shirts from Uniqlo. “I’ve purchased these before as they’re unquestionably the best – the fabric is stiff and so they hold their shape. I’m a size 6 but I buy a men’s M so I can roll the sleeves and they cover my bottom over leggings.”
