UPDATE: We’ll be discussing both books in our shiny new PRIMER Book Club Facebook Group on May 15 between 7-8pm. Join us! Tell us what you thought.

It’s here!

The PRIMER book club. Why? Because our book reviews and social media posts are among our most popular – and because, frankly, there’s been no better time to hunker down with a good book.

Every month we’re going to announce two books on social media – they’ll be books we’ve read in advance under embargo and loved, or books that are receiving lots of buzz.

Four weeks later we’ll post reviews, musings and comments as well as exclusive content from the authors. There’ll also be a chance to comment and talk among each other.

This month, the two books we’ll be reading are Australian literary fiction debut Below Deck by Sophie Hardcastle and US debut Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid.

WANT TO JOIN?

Here’s what to do next:

1.  Decide which book you’re going to read. (Take a look at the blurbs below.)

2. Comment below and tell us: I’m in! And tell us which book you’re going to read.

3. Buy the book, and read it. (Kind of an obvious point, but we like to be thorough.)

4. Check back on this page from May 14, where we’ll have links to a page for each book. There, you can leave your comment about how you found the book, read our reviews and read the exclusive material we have for you.

Aaaannnd…..go! Anna & Fliss xx

Below Deck by Sophie Hardcastle

A debut novel from an Australian author, Below Deck follows 21-year-old Oli, who falls into the company of two fascinating strangers with a love of the ocean. Below Deck is also a fictional account of a harrowing episode of sexual violence from the author’s past.

Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid

On the surface, Such A Fun Age is a story about a young black woman who is wrongly accused of kidnapping a child she is babysitting – and the events that follow. However, this much-hyped debut is also a searing commentary on today’s ‘woke culture’.
