Why Women Need To Stop Striving To Be “Good”

BOOKS

BY ANNA SAUNDERS

Although Elise Loehnen is not a celebrity, she commands a dedicated following among a certain subset of in-the-know women thanks to her popular podcast Pulling The Thread. There’s also the fact that she was Gwyneth Paltrow’s former 2IC at goop.

Loehnen was recently in the country to promote her new book On Our Best Behaviour - a probing analysis of the rules women unwittingly follow in order to be considered “good”. PRIMER’s co-founder Anna Saunders caught up with her to discuss perfection, girl bosses, goodness and ‘snowga’.

"I see it and feel, viscerally, how tired I am of controlling my own behaviour."

– Elise Loehnen

Loehnen examines the myriad ways in which women are too hard on themselves and each other, and how this internal policing affects the way we work, parent and navigate the world… and how exhausting it is to conform to these invisible standards, day in and day out.
