Over the past few weeks, our Instagram feeds have started to feel a little jaded (or maybe we’re just tiring of the endless stream of Greek holiday snaps). So this week we decided to jolt the algorithm out of its stupor with some new accounts to follow, as suggested by some stylish women we love.
Kelly Atkinson, creative director and founder of online fashion marketplace Showroom-X
Perth-based creative and brand consultant Kelly Atkinson cheerfully admits that Instagram is “both the best inspiration and the hardest thing to navigate without getting lost in the rabbit hole”. As well as following individual accounts, she also looks for brands that have a clear purpose, “like Charlotte Hicks ESSE studios. I believe these brands make more robust, long-term connections with their customers.”
@Juliepelipas “Her story is so rich, and she always has something inspiring to recount or share. As a creative director and upcycling entrepreneur, her business ethic is so admirable, and that’s always a source of inspiration to me.”
@Olivecooke “Olive Rose Tervenski has just beautiful imagery – a woman of substance and style.”
@eyeswoon “Author, interior designer and chef Athena Calderone has a super beautiful aesthetic and inspires me for my home.”
@rachellerowlings “She has amazing wit and a very realistic view of parenting/life/work balance.”
Alyce Tran, entrepreneur and co-founder of homewares brand In The Roundhouse
When she founded personalised accessories brand The Daily Edited, Alyce Tran was working as a lawyer and says she had “no idea” how to promote a product.
“Instagram was just on the rise at the time and I really leveraged it by working with content creators to amplify my own brand,” she says. “I really do owe my career to Instagram in some ways.”
@blancamiro “She’s the perfect, eclectic mix of fashion, interior and lifestyle euro vibes.”
@jessicanguyen “I follow her for food, because she also has a Vietnamese background. Not that I actually cook; I look at her posts and then make requests to my mother to execute the recipes!”
@chantelleotten “She just has a different perspective to me that I love getting insight on.”
@morganstewart “I love her style: fun, elevated, colourful.”
Alice McMullin, founder of McMullin & co, luxury furniture and homewares
“I am by nature such a visual person,” says Alice McMullin, “so being able to see people, places and brands through images on Instagram is a great source of inspiration.” It’s also a perfect place to share photos of her gorgeous homewares and furniture company, McMullin and co, which she founded in 2018.
@lisa.sorgini “Lisa is one of my favourite photographers at the moment. She has a unique eye, which manages to perfectly capture the raw and mundane beauty of motherhood.”
@phoebenicol.interiors “Phoebe is the co-owner of The Vault, a platform for sourcing antique furniture, objects and art. I love her curation of sophisticated yet calming interiors. The aesthetic that speaks to her soul also speaks to mine.”
@laurentrend “Lauren is the founder of Self Practice, a platform exploring the intersect between wellbeing, art and design. Her cool, calm and modern aesthetic is a beautiful source of fashion and interior inspiration for me; I appreciate the rawness of the candid moments that she shares and the silence in her style speaks volumes.”
@hattiezampa.art “Hattie uses mixed media on canvas to create stunning artworks that hero women in the most candid and pure way.”
Ally Carey, photography and content creative
“I generally follow photographers, creative directors, artists and photographers,” says Ally, “but I do try to look outside Instagram for bigger-picture ideas. I think some people’s best work is probably not on a social space.” Other sources of inspo include an esoteric magazine and the art direction at Jacquemus.
@cacarrracha “Carla Uriarte is an artist and mother – I love her creative style and how real she is.”
@annapogossova “Artist and photographer Anna Pogossova has great style and lighting for still life.”
@_natashakilleen “Natasha’s work is beautiful — she’s a creative/photographer/videographer from Sydney/Blue Mountains.”
@sophiejanekirk “I love London-based Sophie Jane Kirk’s still life photographs, use of light and dark, and colour.”
@whereisthecool “This magazine has a great vintage feel.”
@sianredgrave “I love her cooking and recipes!”
@jacquemus “I think they nail art direction and marketing. They’re so innovative in their approach.”
