The good news is that it’s nearly party season. The bad news is that if you didn’t love the cut-out trend that dominated last summer, it’s still around – and going nowhere fast.
However, there are plenty of other trends bubbling away – from the rise of sheer fabrics to the return of the mini skirt – and staples like the slip dress are still going strong.
The ICONIC head of womenswear Nicole Adolphe points to matching top-and-skirt sets as one of her favourite emerging trends for the party season.
“The matching set for me cost-wise is a fave, as it means I have a new top that can be paired back with jeans or pants and a skirt that can be worn with another top to get maximum cost per wear out of the outfit,” she says.
Great brands offering matching skirt-and-top sets include Anna Quan and ESSE Studios.
The rise of ruching and draping is another trend Adolphe will be buying into. “It’s really flattering especially around the mid-section as body con styles are not a favourite of mine.”
When it comes to accessorising, statement earrings are an easy way to update or elevate a simple party outfit. Oversized, modern shapes dominate.
