How To Elevate Your Everyday Look

What to wear that’s one-up from sweats

Felicity Robinson

Can you imagine putting on a structured jacket for work right now? Or squeezing your homemade-bread-filled body into a tailored dress and a sharp pair of heels?

Me neither.

But now social-distancing restrictions are starting to lift, we may have to confront the possibility that normal life could, in fact, resume, and we will have to return to the office.

“The clothes we wear for work are going to be more relaxed than pre-Covid,” says our shopping editor Tara Morris, who has always been a fan of sweatshirts as workwear. “I think we’ve got too used to dressing comfortably in lockdown to revert to a more formal look.”

The key to elevating your look is to choose pieces in luxurious fabrics such as cashmere, or those with interesting details.

The pieces Tara has picked for this week’s shopping selection are easy neutrals (bar the odd pop of pink) that will mix happily into your existing wardrobe. They’re elevated by their unusual touches (we love the cut-out cuffs on the Tibi jumper and the relaxed drop shoulder on Lee Mathews’ ‘workroom’ shirt), and premium materials and cut.

“I’d wear the Everlane jumpsuit with a loafer or trainer, and the Lee Mathews shirt would look great with a black pant or jeans,” Tara says. “Cardigans are another really versatile piece you can wear WFH, or with a pant and low heel to work.”
