Best Sales Picks for $50, $100, $200, $300

Our stylist selects the best bargains, plus her favourite sales shopping tips

By Felicity Robinson

When she’s not compiling shopping stories for PRIMER, Tara Morris can be found shooting product and styling stories for THE ICONIC, where she’s been a senior creative stylist for the past five years. Working across hundreds of brands, while nurturing a healthy fashion habit herself, Tara undoubtedly has a keen eye for what makes a good sales bargain.

“The first step is to always subscribe online to your favourite brands and stores, as they’ll often give you early access to sales and/or an extra discount on sale,” she says. You can always an old account (hello, hotmail) for store newsletters if you don’t want to clog your everyday inbox.

Starting a wish list of items can be helpful, she adds, particularly if you use an app like Carted, which you can use to save items you love and then seek second opinions from friends. Best of all, it alerts you when pieces you love go on sale. “I recently signed up and love it,” she says. “I try to have a list of ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ to avoid going too crazy at sales time.”

Although she’ll sometimes splash out on a piece from a designer she loves (“even if it’s something small”), Tara prefers to invest in pricier, quality basics that she needs in her wardrobe but doesn’t want to pay full price for.

Examples might be oversized St Agni pants and the JW Anderson tank top in her sales shopping round-up below. “What sets these pieces apart is the detail: the drawstring on the pants and the embroidered JW Anderson logo on the tank top,” she says. “I know I won’t tire of them.”

Happy shopping!
