We’re Hiring: Journalist Position

Want to work for us at PRIMER?

Anna Saunders

PRIMER is looking for an experienced journalist to work three days a week covering the issue of violence against women.

PRIMER

PRIMER is an independent media company, offering journalism and also lifestyle content, including fashion and beauty. We deliver content from some of Australia’s best-known female writers, and creatives.

We are also a social enterprise, delivering 50 per cent of profits to women’s NGOs.

JOB

This role involves researching and writing stories on the topic of violence against women. You will be expected to attend relevant events and announcements, connect with key sources and organisations in the sector and generate original story ideas.

The successful candidate will be a talented writer who can deliver feature-length stories, as well as some shorter news-focused articles.

You will work collaboratively in a small team, and an interest in and understanding of the issue of violence against women is crucial. Journalistic experience in this field is desirable.

This position is funded by a grant from the Walkley Foundation and Meta, and the successful application will be expected to deliver 11 feature-length stories in one year.

The role would suit a mid-to-senior career journalist looking for work that has impact and purpose. A Sydney location is desirable but not crucial.

Day-to-day you will be expected to:

Meet with key people in the sector and develop or deepen a network of contacts

Attend relevant events and announcements and stay up-to-date with new reports and developments

Find and interview people with lived experience of violence against women to feature in stories

Observe guidelines relating to the reporting of violence against women

Write both short-form and long-form articles

Liaise with photographers and other editorial staff

Work ethically and independently

Have a clear understanding of media law
