Why Matching Sets Feel Right For Now

They’re the easiest way to look pulled together, even if you aren’t

During lockdown, most of us have become accustomed to a certain level of comfort in our clothes. And now we’re emerging from our cocoons, the thought of putting together an outfit from a wardrobe of pre-Covid clothes can be… daunting.

Enter the coordinated set. Comprising a shirt and matching shorts or trousers, a set feels pleasingly pulled together while not being too far removed from the pyjamas or sweats we’ve been living in for the past few months.

“They bring a whole new ease to dressing because they’re a complete outfit while also working separately with other pieces in your wardrobe,” says Lucy Wood, who styled this story. “While on the hunt, I’d be conscious of what you already own and how many outfits you can make with your set. Don’t go for a bold print unless it works with what you currently have.”

Cotton sets like the LMND shirt and shorts, below, are great for daytime, while a pant set – such as those from Bassike or Esse – looks great at night with a low heel and chunky gold jewellery. Accessories are also important to consider if you’re wearing, say, Totême’s silk set, which definitely carries a pyjama vibe.

“A structured sandal and leather bag will make it look more intentional,” adds Lucy.
