Meet Your New Favourite Style Trend

Cheery, bright and warm, these woollies have all the best personality traits

If, like me, you’ve spent far too much time watching TV at 5am (and wondering if Irish dancing could give you, too, legs like Emma’s), bright tops mean only one thing: The Wiggles. And we have to admit that the cheery knits below may be equally retina-scarring early in the morning. But right now, they’re hard to avoid on the high street – even here in Melbourne, the World Capital Of Black.

“Balenciaga, back in 2017, started this shift to colour, and Loewe showed a lot of colour, including a beautiful orange knit, in its 2019 Spring Ready-to-Wear collection,” says our shopping editor Tara Morris, who is a fan. “Bright knits add a really fun element to your winter wardrobe.”

Tara advises wearing a bright jumper a touch oversized, and teaming it (to avoid going full-Wiggle) with blue jeans or a midi skirt. “Wool teams nicely with silk, and a wool jumper looks great over a slip dress, giving a lovely textural contrast,” she says. “You could wear a silk, champagne skirt with a purple knit, for example, or a blue knit with a purple skirt – anything that sits in the same tonal family.”

You might want to keep accessories simple if you’ve got a lot of colour going on, Tara adds. “A clean heel or a sneaker works best, perhaps something like a Veja.”
