3 Stylists On The Sale Pieces They’re Buying Now

They’ve been waiting for the sales and they’re ready to pounce

By PRIMER writers

Stylists see more clothes than we can ever imagine – and they have enviably discerning taste. So we figured that if they hold out for a particular piece to come on sale, it must be something special.

Here, three of our favourite stylists tell us the pieces they love right now.

‘I work on wish lists throughout the year’

Tara Morris, PRIMER’s shopping editor

“For me, sales are the time to buy. With the exception of a few items that I know won’t attract a discount, most of my purchases these days are from online sales.

I work on wish lists throughout the year on websites like Net-A-Porter and Matches, so I know when something I’ve had my eye on has been marked down.

And I don’t only shop a designer sale once: I usually go back for seconds, or even thirds. By that time, stores are usually offering further discounts.

Also a lot of brands now host their ‘warehouse sales’ online, so you now no longer need to fight the crowds. However, your reaction time on laptop or phone does need to be swift.

I particularly love this beautiful going-out top by Victoria Beckham and the Jil Sander shoulder bag, which is an investment piece at an amazing discount.”

‘There’s nothing worse than realising a sale buy doesn’t fit with your wardrobe’

Lucy Wood, stylist and former InStyle fashion editor

“My style can be quite varied and my sale cart often reflects that. I try my best to only buy things on sale that I’ve had my eye on for a while, or have been sitting in my wish lists all season. I have the tendency to be impulsive with shopping and there’s nothing worse than thinking it’s an amazing deal, and then realising it doesn’t fit in with your lifestyle or the rest of your wardrobe.

Below, you’ll find the dress I plan on spending summer in, some earrings for my wedding, a jumper to bring some joy to the rest of winter and some wine glasses I’ve had my eye on for way too long.”

‘For trending fashion items, I give myself a price limit’

Nicole Adolphe, Head of Style, Womens, Kids, Beauty, Home at The Iconic

“I like to shop the sales by designer and also by price point. For trending fashion items, which are printed or colourful and I know will not last season after season, I will give myself a price limit, and shop by filtering from low-high price points, so I won’t spend a lot on something I won’t wear frequently.

For more timeless pieces like a blazer, boot or handbag, I will filter by designer so I can buy something luxe from a designer I love. I also don’t worry too much about sizing, unless it’s too small, of course. I might buy the larger size in a piece I love, and either tailor it in later or just wear it a bit oversized.

My sale picks right now are classic sunglasses and a blazer, and a cute trend piece such as this colourful Ganni mesh top, which you could wear under a blazer or on its own for a night out with a triangle bra and leather pant. Also, I’m going to Mykonos in a few weeks, and this white dress is the perfect vacay piece that I can also wear for work.”
