The unofficial dress code for most parties this year seems to be ‘dress to rival the Christmas tree’ – and why not? After the damp squib of the past few pandemic party seasons, we’re ready to ramp up the old-school glamour.
But when dresses and shoes are decidedly extra, it’s a good idea to keep other accessories a little less… vibrant.
“I’ve noticed jewellery and bags this season are on the more neutral side,” says our stylist Lucy Wood. “They’re still embellished and jewelled, but they’re timeless enough that you’ll be able to wear them over and over.”
Vintage and op shops are a happy hunting ground for accessories that are unique, playful and have already seen some fun, she says. US and UK brands such as Cult Gaia, Shrimps (which has amazing earrings), Roger Vivier and Staud are also great places to pick up maximalist pieces that have longevity.
“I have a pearl bag from Shrimps that I’ve loved for years and worn to many special occasions,” Lucy adds. “I’m also partial to large crystal earrings as an easy way to make a statement without having to worry too much about extra jewellery to pair with them – and they look fab with slicked-back hair.”
Happy shopping (and happy holidays)…
